SPIRIT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

The workshop group met on the steps of the old courthouse (now the cobre valley center for the arts) at 6PM Saturday evening.   We had special permission to do a evening after hour investigation of the historic 1907 building as well as the old gila county jail built in 1909.

 We were escorted into the building and given a tour of the basement, main floor and upstairs office areas.  The upstairs office seemed as though an aggressive spirit was watching us.

 We were all drawn to the old courtroom, which is now the auditorium for performances.  The courtroom was the center of many high profile cases in early globe history.  One of the workshop guests photographed a ghostly presence standing behind his friend.

 We set up video recorders in the old courtroom and left the building to continue our investigations.  Our next stop was the old gila county jail built adjacent to the courthouse in 1909.

 Connie Teague met us at the old jail and gave us a detailed tour of the facility.  She told us stories of death and mayhem in the cellblocks.  We shut ourselves inside one of the more haunted cells to see if anything would manifest.   We were all interested in the catwalk that connected the courthouse to the jail. Criminals were quickly whisked away to their cell via the convenient passageway.

 Connie also led us on a historical ghost walk down Broad Street showing us where ghosts have been reported in the past and why they might be still walking the streets of globe. We also learned the legends of the tunnels under the streets.   It has been said the influential men in globe used the tunnels to enter the whorehouses without being noticed.

 We ended our tour at the bottom of the hill near the drift in saloon.  The owners lived upstairs and asked if we’d like to come up and look for ghosts there as well!  The building was once a hotel for mining officials.  Our walk through only uncovered dust orbs due to construction.

 We went back to the courthouse for soda and snacks and to gather our remaining equipment.
